AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

Enriching every path, every child

At Arbor School, enrichment is an integral part of education. The Arbor Enrichment Experience (AEX) brings together opportunities beyond the classroom that help every student explore their interests, develop their strengths and discover where their passions could lead.

From playful exploration in the early years to specialist pathways, leadership and real-world experiences in Secondary, the programme grows with each child. Students develop confidence, creativity, resilience and a stronger sense of who they are.

Seven strands of enrichment

The Arbor Enrichment Experience is organised across seven distinct strands:

  • Arbor Competes: Physical challenge, sporting development and competition
  • Arbor Explores: Outdoor learning, discovery and immersive experiences
  • Arbor Inquires: Academic enrichment and inquiry beyond the classroom
  • Arbor Inspires: Leadership, service, entrepreneurship and student voice
  • Arbor Performs: Music, drama, dance, presentation and performance
  • Arbor Creates: Art, design, making, innovation and creative problem-solving
  • Arbor Extends: Personalised pathways, mentorship and opportunities that take learning further

Together, these strands create a broad and balanced enrichment offer through which students can try something new, build expertise and pursue areas of genuine interest.

AEX

Discover, Prepare and Pursue

Every AEX opportunity sits within one of three participation pathways, reflecting the level of commitment and challenge involved rather than the age of the student:

The Student Journey

Students experience enrichment through three progressive stages that encourage exploration, build capability and support the pursuit of individual interests and talents.

  • Discover: Welcoming, curiosity-led opportunities to explore interests and build confidence.
  • Prepare: Developmental experiences that build skills, consistency and readiness for greater challenge.
  • Pursue: Specialist, high-commitment pathways through which students develop an interest or talent in greater depth.

This flexible approach allows students to participate at a level suited to their interests, experience and readiness. A student might pursue excellence in one area while continuing to discover something entirely new in another.

Enrichment with purpose

Ecoliteracy, wellbeing and culture are woven throughout the Arbor Enrichment Experience. These are not separate activities, but lenses that help shape each opportunity.

Students are encouraged to understand the systems and communities around them, develop with balance and empathy, appreciate different cultures and perspectives, and consider how their interests and abilities can contribute positively to the wider world.

Opportunities throughout school life

AEX opportunities take place before school, during lunchtimes and after school, as well as through competitions, performances, leadership roles, service projects, trips and residential experiences.

Activities are delivered by Arbor staff, specialist practitioners and carefully selected external partners. The programme changes throughout the year, giving students opportunities to build upon existing interests and encounter new experiences.

Information about each term’s activities, timings, age groups and any associated fees is shared with families ahead of registration.

Alongside music within the curriculum and the wider Arbor Enrichment Experience, we work with the Centre for Musical Arts to provide individual instrumental music lessons during the school day.
