DOCATHON | ARBOR SCHOOL
Docathon
We are proud to introduce Docathon, a global documentary storytelling programme, delivered in partnership with MAD Courses, engaging Key Stage 3 students in creating short films on environmental and social issues.
This unique learning experience combines inquiry-led classroom learning with hands-on storytelling, connecting students with real-world issues, changemakers and global audiences.
Through research, collaboration, interviewing and filmmaking, students move beyond learning about the world to engaging with it directly.
Rooted in our ecoliteracy curriculum, students in Years 7 to 9 explore themes such as desert ecosystems, tourism, marine innovation and environmental action in the UAE, developing their own perspectives through film while engaging with experts, NGOs and organisations leading change.
Working collaboratively through each stage of the process – from developing ideas and planning stories to filming, editing and sharing their documentaries – students build confidence, communication skills and real-world problem-solving skills, supported by educators, documentary mentors and the global Docathon network.
Docathon is a natural extension of our interdisciplinary, inquiry-led approach, connecting learning across English, humanities, media studies and ecological education, while giving students meaningful opportunities to apply their learning with purpose.
Through global film exchanges and wider showcases, students share their work beyond the classroom, connecting local stories to global conversations and discovering the power of youth voice.
At Arbor, we believe every challenge presents an opportunity for positive change.
Docathon helps students explore that belief – and bring it to life.
