FUTURES COUNSELLING | THE ARBOR SCHOOL

Futures Counselling

The Futures Counselling Department aims to empower students and their families through a comprehensive careers guidance program that supports well-being and provides academic, career, and future guidance. We are dedicated to helping students explore their interests, identify their abilities, and prepare for a seamless transition to whatever the future holds—be it university, apprenticeships, or entering the workforce.

We are proud to be a Times Higher Education accredited school as well as members of the International Association for College Admission Counselling (IACAC) and National Career Development Association (NCDA). These affiliations reflect our commitment to upholding global standards in career and university counselling, ensuring our students receive the highest level of support and guidance.

Throughout their time in Arbor Secondary, students are supported via:

  • 1:1 Counselling and Group Sessions: Tailored guidance to explore interests, set goals, and plan futures.
  • Subject Selection Support: Assistance with selecting GCSE and A-Level subjects that align with each student’s strengths and aspirations.
  • Future Pathways Assistance: Comprehensive support for university applications, apprenticeship options, and other career paths.
  • Personalized Career Plans: Students work with our Futures Counsellor to create individualized academic and career plans, setting both short- and long-term goals. These plans are regularly reviewed and adjusted as students progress through their educational journey.
  • Digital Portfolios: Using platforms like Unifrog, students build digital portfolios that document their achievements, skills, and experiences, creating a valuable resource to showcase their development and readiness for future pathways.
  • Interest-Based Resources: We provide tailored resources and guidance for students with specific interests, whether in arts, sports, STEM, business, or other fields. Relevant events, competitions, and summer programs are highlighted to help students deepen their expertise in areas they are passionate about.
  • Work Experience Week: Students in Years 12 and 13 participate in a dedicated work experience week, allowing them to gain hands-on experience in their fields of interest.
  • Global University Network: Arbor’s connections with a vast network of international universities offer students a unique opportunity to explore education options worldwide. Through regular university visits, students have access to representatives from leading institutions, university fairs, and workshops.
  • University Visits: Regular visits from leading international universities, conducted as university fairs, subject-specific talks, and application workshops.
  • Guest Speakers and Industry Professionals: Sessions with experts across fields to provide insights into diverse career paths.
  • Parent Workshops and Webinars: Our Futures Counselling program includes sessions specifically for parents to help them support their teenagers through key transitions, such as subject selection, university and career planning, and making informed decisions about future pathways.

Enough for all, forever.
