The Arbor School Centre For Abundance
The Centre for Abundance is a special project created by the school to help achieve its mission: to give our students an education that connects them with nature and inspires them to imagine and work toward a better future for everyone.
When we talk about “abundance,” we mean more than just surviving or doing the bare minimum to sustain the environment. It’s about creating a world where people and nature thrive together. We believe this positive and hopeful vision helps us better understand what we could lose – and what we could gain – if we make the right choices to solve today’s ecological and social problems.
The Centre for Abundance started in 2022. It is a place where we share new ideas, develop solutions, and take action to make a real difference.
The Centre plays a big role in helping the school work toward its goals. This means we try to connect what happens in the classroom, around the school campus, and in the wider community. By bringing these areas together, we can achieve more and create stronger results.
The Centre for Abundance also leads the design and improvement of the Arbor School’s Ecoliteracy Curriculum. This one-of-a kind curriculum blends three global frameworks and uses an inquiry approach to help students learn about ecological systems, and the roles humans play as a part of those systems. These frameworks guide what students learn, the skills they develop, and the character strengths they choose to nurture in themselves and in others. To make learning meaningful, we encourage students to ask their own questions and explore ideas both in and outside the classroom. This helps them connect with nature and the community and imagine a better future for everyone.
The Centre also works to build what we call a “culture of abundance.” This means we involve everyone – students, teachers, school staff, parents, scientists, and others in the community – in working together to create a school community that is caring and committed to building a world where there is enough for all, forever.
