Introducing the Arborist Scholarship

A unique scholarship for young people who care deeply about people, place and planet.

At Arbor School, we’ve always believed that excellence comes in many forms. 

While academic achievement, sporting talent and artistic ability continue to be recognised through our existing scholarship programme, we’re proud to introduce something entirely unique to Arbor – the Arborist Scholarship. 

Open to prospective Primary and Secondary students, the Arborist Scholarship has been created for young people who demonstrate a genuine passion for environmental or ecological issues and who are committed to making a positive difference in the world around them. 

Unlike traditional scholarships, the Arborist Scholarship isn’t based solely on academic performance. Instead, we’re looking for students who show initiative, environmental awareness and the potential to become future leaders in sustainability and environmental action. 

As the World’s Best School for Environmental Action, nurturing environmental stewardship sits at the heart of everything we do. From our living campus and biodomes to our Ecological and Environmental Education (E3) curriculum, we believe education should inspire young people not only to understand the world, but to help shape its future. 

George Spurling, Assistant Headteacher for Enrichment and Academic Excellence, said:

It’s about identifying potential, nurturing talent and creating opportunities for young people to make a meaningful contribution to the world around them. The Arborist Scholarship reflects everything that makes Arbor unique, celebrating students who are committed to creating positive environmental change.” 

Successful Arborist Scholars will have the opportunity to develop their interests through environmental projects, leadership opportunities and close collaboration with our Ecological and Environmental Education (E3) team, becoming part of a community of young people committed to making a positive impact. 

Euan Riddell, Assistant Headteacher for Ecological and Environmental Education (E3), added: 

“We’re looking for young people who care deeply about people, place and planet. Students who ask thoughtful questions, demonstrate initiative and want to make a positive difference. Through the Arborist Scholarship, we’ll support and nurture that potential, empowering students to become confident environmental advocates and changemakers.” 

Applying is simple. Families are invited to complete a short online application, including a personal statement of up to 300 words explaining why they would like to become an Arborist Scholar. Shortlisted applicants will then be invited to an online interview before school reports are requested.
