Continual Professional Development

The Arbor School is committed to the establishment of an effective and responsive professional development programme. We have allocated an appropriate budget for professional development in the financial plans to ensure the agreed vision and School Improvement Plan can be achieved. Our “Challenging for Good Teaching” programme will be the robust platform for all professional development and induction of all new staff to the school, regardless of their position. It has been designed to continually improve standards of teaching and learning across the school. The programme is delivered cross phase, bringing together teachers from the primary and secondary sectors.

The core course for new staff is centred into the following sections:

  • The importance of understanding Dubai and the vision for the future
  • Challenge and Engagement within the school vision;
  • School procedures and child protection
  • Mastery Curriculum
  • Starters (Enthuse and Motivate) and Plenaries (Review and Assess);
  • Assessment and Closing the Gap;
  • Questioning;
  • Personal Learning (Differentiation);
  • Final presentations;
  • Evaluation.

Each teacher will be required to submit an annual case study entitled “Measuring the Impact of My Professional Development”. These will be published in The Arbor School CPD Review and the findings interrogated and acted upon by the Senior Leadership Team. Individual requirements will be identified through activities such as the performance management processes, internal observations and personal requests. The school is committed to supporting the enhancement of its employees, as it directly impacts the educational experiences of the students.
